Harinarayani is one of the rarest janyas of Kharaharapriya mela ragam; created by Gayakashikhamani Harikeshanallur Muthaiah Bhagavathar. The only composition in this raga also is by Bhagavathar, “dEvI shrI mahAlakSmi dInapAlE rakSisenna”. The arohanam is sampoornam, with M1 coming additionally in vakra, while the avarohanam loses D2, so that the ragaswaroopa can be written as:
S R2 G2 M1 P M1 D2 N2 S // S N2 P M1 G2 R2 S
There is no other specification given in any reference book. The raga is a very melodious one; has to be sung preferably in madhyama kala, it evokes a very meditative mood and bhakthi rasa.
Compositions:
As mentioned above, the only composition available is ‘Devi sree Mahalakshmi’ by Dr. Muthaiah Bhagavathar; no other composer seems to have composed in this raga.
